SBAS data conversion

SBAS systems provide DGPS correction data with integrity information about the state of the satellite system via geostationary satellites. Correction data of the European EGNOS system is generated from a network of more than 30 GNSS reference stations distributed across Europe. EGNOS data is provided in RTCA format. In order to increase data availability in shadowed areas (with no EGNOS satellite visibility), corrections are also made available via an Internet server (EDAS).

Beacon.net has a data conversion tool that converts the EGNOS RTCA data stream to RTCM data for defined positions (“EGNOS VRS”). EGNOS data from a GNSS receiver or the EDAS server can thus be used for data processing. As a result of the longer interstation distances the positioning accuracy of EGNOS is lower than that of the regional VRS solution. The advantage is that EGNOS signals are available free of charge and EGNOS is monitored by the system operator. For existing IALA DGNSS services in Europe EGNOS can be used as a backup solution.
